Development and optimization of different bioencapsulation methods in view of their selection and transfer to cell transplantation protocols with special regard to sertoli cells transplantation in conduits for nerve repair. Additionally, specific formulations for the controlled release of biomodulators will be developed in an attempt to possibly provide the grafts with long-term stability in terms of both, capsular stability and cell viability.
Further aims are to explore the possibilities offered by new materials in cell encapsulation and to identify new processes allowing the use of these materials under mild and biocompatible conditions.
